After a down period recently, Ripple’s value is starting to go up again. This may be your last chance to buy on the cheap! Experts agree upon the notion that, given the network’s popularity, well-built platform, worldwide investing interests and penetration in the media and mainstream society, Ripple is bound to grow in the short, medium, and long-term.

For starters, pundits continually say that the possibility of Ripple ending 2018 at a value nearing $1 is very much attainable. You may see the figure and may think that is not a lot, but consider that it is currently at less than a dollar: that would be more than ten times its actual price! Imagine how much money could be made with high volume investments.

What Is Ripple?

Ripple is a privately held company that aims to create and enable a global network of financial institutions and banks. It does so by using the RippleNet blockchain software to lower the cost of international payments. Ripple calls the global network using this software the “Internet of Value.”

The term Ripple is often used to describe the digital currency XRP, the open payment network on which that currency is transferred, as well as the holding company behind the whole project.

The XRP ledger is an open-source product created by Ripple. It was created to solve a major point of friction in international payments, pre-funding of nostro/vostro accounts. Banks can use XRP to source liquidity in real time. Payment providers can also use it to expand reach into new markets, provide faster payment settlements, and lower foreign exchange costs.

Ripple is essentially taking a stand against what they call “walled gardens” of financial networks consisting of banks, credit cards, and other institutions such as PayPal. These organizations tend to restrict the flow of money with fees, currency exchange charges, and processing delays.

How does Ripple work?

Ripple is a blockchain system that owns a currency. XRP is the name of Ripple’s cryptocurrency, most of which is held by Ripple, the company. Currently, Ripple owns approximately 60 billion XRP and can sell up to one billion per month. More importantly, however, is the blockchain network operated by Ripple, called RippleNet. The infrastructure of RippleNet is designed to support fast, convenient transactions, making Ripple the preferred cryptocurrency and blockchain solution for big financial institutions and the “unbanked” population.

A key difference in the way that Ripple works is that it specifies a path for a money exchange. For example, if Bank A wants to send a money transfer to Bank B overseas, Bank A must specify “by which gateway (other banks, institutions, or individuals) it is connected in the Ripple network” to Bank B. Then, once the transaction is formed, it gets sent to a validator. The validator takes the transactions, turns them into proposals, sends those proposals to other validators, and then participates in a vetting process. Proposals that get more than 50% consensus in the first round must participate in three more rounds before being approved. The goal is to weed out “transactions that are somehow doubtful or clearly wrong, such as instances of double spending.”

Ripple’s mechanism has the advantage of using less energy while enabling instant verification of transactions without any central authority figure directing traffic. It’s a win-win for many companies: Ripple is decentralized, yet faster and more reliable than other blockchain networks.

History & Team
Ripple started in 2012, but it began as an idea in 2004. In 2005, Ryan Fugger launched RipplePay.com as a precursor to blockchain currencies. RipplePay provided online secure payment options for communities but didn’t gain widespread adoption. In 2011, Fugger was soon approached by Jared McCaleb and Chris Larsen to replace RipplePay with a digital currency system where community consensus verified transactions, rather than miners like on the Bitcoin network.

Work began on the Ripple Transaction Protocol in 2012. The protocol was designed to facilitate quick, direct money transfers between two parties in fiat currencies, without the wait times or transaction fees of traditional money transfer services. To provide greater liquidity, the protocol also provided for the creation of a new value token known as XRP.

By 2014, what began as a person-to-person money transfer option began to gain traction with banks as another option for settling remittances in a quicker, more cost effective way than traditional technologies. In 2014, several banks and payment processors signed on to utilize Ripple in a testing capacity. Ripple has added more institutions every year since, with over 100 clients in 2017.

Where Can You Buy and Store XRP?
You can buy Ripple at many of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges such as Bittrex, Kraken, and Binance. You could also any brokerage platforms such as Changelly.

If you want to hold XRP for the long term, we recommend using a hardware wallet such as the Ledger Nano S or one that supports XRP.

Hard wallets are generally much safer because they’re offline and have better security than exchange and other online wallets. However, they aren’t ideal for someone trading frequently.

In What do you invest when buying XRP?

XRP is the native token of the Ripple system. He performs different functions:

A unit of value that can be quickly transferred from one account to another
Transaction costs that serve as anti-spam and are burned – decrease in supply
Permission to open an account: each account requires an amount of 20 XRP which will be stored forever.
